Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.)

D.A.R.E. is a10-week program taught to 5th and 6th grade students by a certified police officer. The D.A.R.E. program is a cooperating effort between schools, parents, and police to educate children about the effects of drugs, alcohol, and violence. This highly acclaimed program gives students skills needed to recognize and resist the many pressures that influence them to experiment with alcohol and drugs. Additional program strategies are planned to focus on feelings related to self-esteem, interpersonal and communication skills. D.A.R.E. decision-making models help students to think about the different choices before making a decision. Positive alternatives to drug abuse are discussed and focused on.
